When extremely wealthy Jonathan Donner accidentally meets a beautiful stranger, he disavows his former life as a playboy, seemingly content to settle down with the woman. Their marriage is not viewed favorably by Donner's family, however, and Jonathan's subsequent freak death brings an air of legitimacy to the family's fears, setting the stage for a bitter conflict between the family and their new, and quite mysterious, daughter-in-law.
