The Last Lieutenant is the tale of a Nazi spy who assumes the identity of an American cryptologist after murdering the American in 1941. The spy ends up on Corregidor during the Japanese siege. He and his commanding officer are ordered to evacuate, as they have knowledge of U.S. tactical plans concerning the island of Midway. The senior officer is found mortally wounded at their rendezvous point, and the spy is nowhere to be found. The captain of the ship that was to pick them up has a mystery on his hands.
