In 1983, Kevin Swift (age 14) and his father, Jerry, travel cross-country as they flee from a succession of Jerry's scams and petty heists. Along the way, they pick up another teenager, Colette, with whom both of them fall in love, and embark on a fabulously successful crime spree. Inevitably, their luck runs out--but in an epilogue, set many years later, they reconvene for one more con, and this time it's a big one....
