In 1945, a judge is murdered, and NYPD Detective Jake Downing, who's investigating the case, makes the mistake of initiating an affair with the judge's beautiful widow. Thirty years later, still regretting the affair, Jake feels compelled to reopen the case, no matter what the consequences, because he knows that the wrong man was executed for the crime.
