From a Somalian writer, this is the story of Jeebleh, a professor living in New York who returns to his home city of Mogadiscio to take care of family business. The city is in turmoil, with two warring factions that have made the place into a hell of terrorism and mob rule. Jeebleh fears for his own life as he makes his way around a city that has become unfamiliar to him, looking up old friends and trying to find out--to his horror--what was really behind the death of his mother. And the longer he stays, the more he realizes that while he may have left his homeland behind, much of it remains with him.
