A Brief Lunacy
Carl and Jessie have retired to Maine, where they live in a cottage far from neighbors. When a young man named Jonah shows up, says his camping gear has been stolen, and begs a bed for the night, they readily oblige. He then takes them hostage and proceeds to torture them both physically and--much moreso--psychologically. It turns out that Jonah is the very disturbed boyfriend of their schizophrenic daughter Sylvie, both of whom have escaped from a mental health facility. The tale ends with an unexpected twist in this literary but grippingly white-knuckled thriller.
