After years of playing the hero in the United States Marine Corps, Chase Malone has veered into New York's glamorous art world, selling his paintings to wealthy patrons. The latest hopeful owner of Malone's work happens to be Derek Bellasar, a successful arms dealer backed by political ties, his own private army, and an abundant amount of cash. When Malone refuses to paint a portrait of Bellasar's beautiful wife, Sienna, Bellasar goes on a spree of revenge, arranging for Malone's land in Mexico to be sold, his house destroyed, his favorite restaurant closed, and his gallery bought. Little does the dangerous dealer know, however, that Malone has connections of his own. Jeb, Malone's marine buddy turned CIA agent, is leading an investigation on Bellasar and his various international crimes and informs Malone that Bellasar in on to his fourth marriage; his first three wives died mysteriously after their portraits were taken by leading painters. Eager to get back at Bellasar and save his wife, Malone agrees to fly to Nice and work undercover. Once there, Malone and Sienna carry on a whirlwind romance. Just as they are about to make their lovers' escape, Bellasar appears--and the real trouble begins.

Bullets fly when evil Islamic leader Sheik al-Jabar murders the best friend of navy Lieutenant Sean Woods. Woods, whose father was killed in a terrorist attack, has no patience for heartless assassins eager to cause trouble with Israel and the United States. From his station on an aircraft carrier off the Israeli coast, Sean writes a letter to his local congressman, asking if Article 1, Section 8, of the U.S. Constitution, which states that war can be declared on a single person if he/she threatens American interests abroad, could be applied to al-Jabar. More complications arise when Woods hears evidence that Israel may have used al-Jabar as bait to entice the U.S. to declare war on its enemies. The staff of the Monkeewrench software company seem to have a hit on their hands--Serial Killer Detective, their new game, is getting great reviews from its early customers. The trouble is that one of the game's fans is taking things a bit too literally (or is it virtually?) and restaging the murders depicted in the game. Meanwhile, as Grace McBride and her coworkers race to predict the killer's next victim, a Wisconsin sheriff may unwittingly find the solution in his investigation of an apparently unrelated murder and its extremely bizarre collection of evidence. This thriller was written by a mother-daughter team under a pseudonym; it is the first in a four-book series.
